Industry Experience

Prior to founding GC Asset Management, Mr. Cunningham joined Merrill Lynch Private Client Group in 1997. As a private client advisor, he managed individual, family, and business relationships with an emphasis on retirement planning, residential mortgage lending, and investment strategies. Mr. Cunningham’s investment specialties included equities, exchange traded funds, fixed income, and concentrated stock hedging. In 2005, Mr. Cunningham was recruited by Nexcore Capital, a boutique private equity firm where he was instrumental in establishing their financial services component. In 2008, he went on to independence with brokersXpress, which was acquired by Charles Schwab. In 2011, following a two year mobilization for combat service in Afghanistan, Mr. Cunningham founded GC Asset Management.

Entrepreneurial Drive

Mr. Cunningham is also a founder of AirOptions Aviation, an air charter company headquartered in Carlsbad, California that was sold successfully in 2015. He has also been a strategic advisor to several Southern California companies including Basic Kitchen + Bar, Envirepel renewable energy, Envision Solar, Ambient Control Systems, and Laurel Ridge Sport Horses, owned and managed by his wife, Laura.

U.S. Marine Corps Integrity

Major Cunningham commanded units in the infantry, recruit training and armored reconnaissance communities. He is a combat veteran of the Gulf War and the Afghanistan War. In the Gulf War he was a liaison for a 600 Marine infantry battalion that came ashore during the invasion of Kuwait. In Afghanistan he was the operations officer for 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, a reinforced 1200 Marine task force that covered 20,000 kilometers of battlespace in the Helmand province.
